Industrial attachment and human capital of higher education students: constraints of Ghanaian technical universities

Purpose The paucity of empirical evidence on the limitations industrial attachment programme technical universities for enhancing students' human capital in Africa tends to thwart concrete policy options. Design/methodology/approach study used convergent mixed methods including 594 surveys, two focus groups and in-depth interviews assess accentuate research gap this study. Findings Evidence constraints linked developing needs include limited funding, logistics incentive supervision, incompatible placement exploitation sexual harassment students. Insufficient duration intrusion due labour unrests, inadequate collaboration fears student interns breaching organisations' confidentiality policies were also found hinder programme. Research limitations/implications study's dependence participants' perspectives has possibility being characterised by recollection prejudice. comparatively scope size participants creates concerns representativeness generalisability outcome. Practical implications outcome could yield significant practical planning operations tertiary institutions. It provides information which serve as basis future comprehensive evaluation programme's implementation. Originality/value authors have delineated Ghanaian inform decisions planning, operations, funding with industry government.
